Nature Story Time

September 11th, 2020

Miss Tracy reads "Fly, Monarch! Fly!" by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace and shows us how to make a monarch butterfly craft and story stones! For the crafts, you will need:

  • Monarch Butterfly Craft: Black and orange paper, glue, white paint, q-tip, black marker, scissors, and a pencil
  • Fingerpaint Caterpillar Counts: paper, marker, paint
  • Story Stones: stones, paint, paint brush, imagination

Miss Tracy reads "Turtle Splash! Countdown at the Pond" by Cathryn Falwell and shows us how to make a turtle craft, a turtle countdown and a pond touch bin! For the crafts, you will need:

  • Turtle craft: green construction paper, cupcake liner, glue, scissors, markers, and optional google eyes
  • Turtle countdown: paper towel roll, 10 popsicle sticks, turtle picture cut-out
  • Pond touch bin: bin, rocks, sticks, leaves, plastic bottle caps
  • Turtle print-out

Miss Tracy reads "Forest Bright, Forest Night" by Jennifer Ward and shows us how to make a day time/night time scene and starry number bean bag toss! For the crafts, you will need:

  • Day time/Night time scene: paper plate, yellow and white paper, scissors, glue, dark blue and light blue paint or markers, paint brush, and cotton balls/tissue
  • Starry number bean bag toss: paper plates, yellow paper, marker, glue, bean bag

Miss Tracy reads "Waiting for Wings" by Lois Ehlert and shows us how to make butterfly crafts and feeders! For the crafts, you will need:

  • Filter Butterflies: coffee filters, paper towels, markers, pipe cleaners/twist ties/clothes pins, spray bottle with water
  • Fingerpaint Caterpillar Counts: paper, marker, paint
  • Butterfly Feeders: plastic recyclables, fruit, string

Miss Tracy reads "My Garden" by Kevin Henkes and shows us how to make flower crafts using egg cartons. For the crafts, you will need:

  • Flower Craft: egg carton, scissors, paper, glue, watercolors or other coloring utensils
  • Color Matching Flowers: colored paper, egg carton, paint, popsicle sticks, scissors
  • Egg Carton Planter: egg carton, soil, seeds, water

  • Owl Kite: white paper, yellow paper, stapler, scissors, tape, hole punch, string, ruler, coloring utensils
  • Bird Feather Counting: colored construction paper, colored feathers or paper, marker
  • Bird Watch Scavenger Hunt: tally sheet, pencil

Miss Tracy reads "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen and shows us how to make binoculars from toilet paper rolls and story-themed sensory bags. For the crafts, you will need:

  • Binoculars: 3 cardboard tubes, hole punch, scissors, tape, yarn, and coloring supplies
  • Sensory Bags: plastic bags, grass, water, blue food coloring, mud, sticks, and flour or powdered sugar

April 16th, 2020

Miss Tracy reads "Little Cloud" by Eric Carle and shows us how to make cloud crafts and set up a sensory rain bin. For the crafts, you will need:

  • Cloud Painting: blue paper, white paint
  • Cotton Clouds: paper, cotton balls or tissue, glue
  • Rain Drop Count: paper, pen, paint or marker
  • Sensory Rain Bin: cups with holes, water

April 2nd, 2020

Miss Tracy reads a story about a frog with a sticky tongue and shows us how to make a frog craft and lily pad hopscotch game. For the game, you will need sidewalk chalk. For the craft, you will need:

  • toilet paper roll, pencil, paint or markers, scissors, black and green paper, glue, string, and a stapler

Miss Tracy reads a story about maple syrup and gets us moving by "making pancakes!" Finish your story time by making maple tree crafts and heading outside for a hike. For the crafts, you will need:

  • Maple Tree: blue, brown, and white paper; aluminum foil; scissors; & glue OR white paper, coloring utensils, & aluminum foil
  • Counting Sticks: cardboard tubes labeled with numbers 1-10 & sticks gathered from outside
